Shehu Sani, the former senator who represented Kaduna Central at the eighth National Assembly has reacted to a statement made by Retired General Theophilus Danjuma regarding the state of the country. "If I tell you what I know that is happening in Nigeria today, you will no longer sleep," Danjuma was quoted 

have said Ibadan, Oyo state, during a book launch. While the statement has made many wondering what Danjuma knew about that could upset the whole country, Sani in a tweet on Friday, December 20, asked the retired military man to spill the beans. 

Speaking in his characteristic parable, Sani tweeted: "Dear Baba Gen TY, spill the ordourous, putrid Beans so that the snoring slumberland ‘will be awakened’ by the insomnia of its truth and of its reality." 

Like an afterthought again in the early hours of Saturday, December 21, the former Kaduna senator tweeted on the Danjuma statement again. He claimed, in his usual veiled tweet, that some southern and northern leaders are after Danjuma for his "bitter message". "Hunters with Bows and Arrows and spears from the South and Turbaned men with swords on Horses from the North, are after the messenger called Danjuma,for his bitter message written on the scroll," Sani tweeted.

The pastor, who was reported to have been detained by the SSS after the incident, sought the order of the court to release him from the custody of the security agency. Joined as respondents in the suit are: the State Security Service, director-general State Security Service, Emmanuel Anaobi, Isaac Babalola and Remi Oluwalogbon. In addition to asking the court to direct the secret police to release him unconditionally from detention, the cleric also urged the court to retrain the SSS from further acts of arrest.                   Tragedy in Kaduna as 3 teenagers are buried alive



Three teenagers reportedly died in Kaduna after sand buried them alive at a construction site - The incident was said to have occurred when five children were trying to dig a hole to remove an iron buried beneath the earth at the construction site - Malam Jamilu, the chief Imam of Kalshen Kwalta Juma’at Mosque, said he performed the funeral on the victims There was confusion in the Rigasa community of Kaduna state when three teenagers were buried alive when sand fell on them at a construction site. Daily Trust reports that the incident occurred on Wednesday, December 18, when five children were trying to dig a hole to remove an iron buried beneath the earth at the construction site. The occurrence was confirmed by the chief imam of Kalshen Kwalta Juma’at Mosque, Malam Jamilu, who said he performed the funeral on the victims.

"Yes, the victims were three in number and they were of 12-16 years of age. One of the victims is the son of my neighbour. He is called Zahradeen. I performed their funeral prayers," the cleric said. R

“They went to a construction site where the state government is constructing a bridge, digging to remove irons beneath the earth just like the local miners ‎are doing when the sand fell on them and were buried alive." Shortly after the incident occurred, a passerby who saw what happened was reported to have raised the alarm but all effort to rescue them failed because there was no equipment to pack the sand. Two of the children were reported to have died on the spot while the other died few hours after being rescued. 

Legislative aides protest at National Assembly over non-payment of salaries

Premium Times reports that the aides on Thursday, December 19, protested around the National Assembly, displaying placards with various inscriptions such as, “we are aides, not slaves”, “it is a grievous sin to deny workers of their wages.”

One of the protesters who is an aide to a Bayelsa lawmaker in the House of Representatives, Lawson Oviasoje, said the National Assembly management has not paid them for six months.

The message from PDP's national chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, is in felicitation with Saraki who celebrates his 57th birthday on Thursday, December 19. Secondus said he was sending the message on behalf of the party and its National Executive Committee (NEC). A statement by Kola Ologbondiyan, the national publicity secretary of the PDP, quoted Secondus as saying the party was exceedingly proud of Saraki and his service to Nigerians. "The PDP is exceedingly proud of Senator Saraki for his innumerable sacrifices towards the unity, stability and development of our nation, as well as his outstanding roles in the struggle for the restoration of democratic tenets in our country," the party said. 

To the PDP, Saraki remains an exceptional patriot with track records in different areas of service including as governor, Senate president and director-general of the party's campaign organisation in 2019. The party called him one of the best governors that Nigeria has ever produced as a result of the successes he recorded in Kwara state.

FG declares Wednesday, Thursday, December 25, 26 as public holidays 


Wednesday and Thursday, December 25 and 26, has been declared as public holidays in Nigeria - The declaration was made by the minister of interior Rauf Aregbesola on Thursday, December 19 - The minister also said that Wednesday, January 1, (New Year's Day) will serve as a public holiday for all Nigerians The Federal Government has declared that Wednesday and Thursday, December 25 and 26 as public holidays. As a custom, the public holiday declaration was made on Thursday, December 19, by the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola. 

A statement released by Georgina Ehuriah, the permanent secretary to the ministry of interior, said that Wednesday, January 1, has also be declared a public holiday. 

Ehuriah noted that the public holidays are for the Christmas (December 25), Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year (January 1) celebrations. She also said that the minister felicitates with all Christians and Nigerians home and abroad during the yuletide period. 

“Christians and all Nigerians both at home and abroad on this year’s Christmas and New Year Celebrations," the statement said. Aregbesola also enjoined all Christians to live within the virtues and teachings of Jesus Christ, which hinge on compassion, patience, peace, humility, righteousness and love for one another, adding that doing so would guarantee an atmosphere of peace and security in the country.

President Buhari Makes Fresh Appointment

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday approved the appointment of Sarki Auwalu as the Director of the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR).

Naija News reports that Auwalu would head the Department for an initial term of four years.

President Buhari’s approval was made known in a statement by his Media Adviser, Femi Adesina.

Mr Auwalu, a chemical engineer, has been a driving force of the DPR, which he joined in 1998 as Principal Chemical Engineer.

The new Director is a graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and had his post-graduate studies at Bayero University, Kano, and PETRAD Norway, PetroSkill USA, among other institutions.

Auwalu is Associate Member, Institute of Chemical Engineers, UK; Member, Society of Petroleum Engineers; Member, Nigerian Society of Engineers; and Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria (COREN).

Adamawa Court Denies Missing Rape Case File

An Upper Area Court 3 in Yola, Adamawa State has denied that a case file slated for judgment on a rape case against one Mohammed Aliyu was missing from the court, saying that it was a case of ‘’Act of Gross Indecency’’ not rape as been reported.

In a statement made available to newsmen, the court frowned that at no time did the court entertain any case of rape as it is not within its jurisdiction rather a case before it was that of indecent assault.

According to the Court,’’ no case file ever disappeared and all the files that are ready for judgment are under the custody of the registry.’’

It added that the case which was reported as “rape case” was on alleged  ” Act of Gross Indecency” with file number Y/12/c3/2018/ involving one Mohammed Aliyu, saying that even on the First Information Report (FIR) it is stated:  ” Act of Gross Indecency” and not a rape case.

It further threatened that henceforth, ‘’ any reporter who disseminates a false report on its proceedings will be charged for contempt of court.’’

Explaining further, the Registrar of the Upper Area Court, Barrister Aminu Sule said that the case file was with the registry and that judgment was not ready at that time and not missing.

Sule said it is the duty of a registrar to keep all files that are ready for judgment and not the Judge, explaining that, ‘’ ordinarily Area Courts and Upper Area Courts do not have jurisdiction to try rape cases.

He disclosed that the case was slated for January 14, 2020, for judgment and not 

4th January.

The EFCC opposes bail application filled by convicted former governor of Abia state and serving senator, Orji Uzor Kalu - Rotimi Jacobs, the counsel to the anti-graft commission, argues that bail application is a right of an accused but not a right available to a convict - Jacobs also notes that the medical report which Kalu is using for his bail application is not recent as it was obtained over a year ago The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has told the Federal High Court sitting in Lagos to decline the bail application of convicted former governor of Abia state and serving senator, Orji Uzor Kalu. 
"Although bail is generally a right of an accused as guaranteed by the Constitution, it is not a right available to a convict because the presumption of innocence had crystallized into guilt and conviction,” Rotimi Jacobs said. The counsel to the EFCC also stated that the medical report which Kalu was using for his bail application was not recent as it was obtained over a year ago. In addition, Jacobs argued that Kalu’s request to be released on bail so as to seek traditional medicine is not tenable, noting that the medical facilities at the Ikoyi custodial centre are capable of handling Kalu’s condition. The EFCC also questioned why Kalu was saying that he wants to be released on health grounds; while in another instance saying that as a senator, he needs to be released on bail so as to carry out his official functions.
