FG declares Wednesday, Thursday, December 25, 26 as public holidays

Wednesday and Thursday, December 25 and 26, has been declared as public holidays in Nigeria - The declaration was made by the minister of interior Rauf Aregbesola on Thursday, December 19 - The minister also said that Wednesday, January 1, (New Year's Day) will serve as a public holiday for all Nigerians The Federal Government has declared that Wednesday and Thursday, December 25 and 26 as public holidays. As a custom, the public holiday declaration was made on Thursday, December 19, by the minister of interior, Rauf Aregbesola. 

A statement released by Georgina Ehuriah, the permanent secretary to the ministry of interior, said that Wednesday, January 1, has also be declared a public holiday. 

Ehuriah noted that the public holidays are for the Christmas (December 25), Boxing Day (December 26) and New Year (January 1) celebrations. She also said that the minister felicitates with all Christians and Nigerians home and abroad during the yuletide period. 

“Christians and all Nigerians both at home and abroad on this year’s Christmas and New Year Celebrations," the statement said. Aregbesola also enjoined all Christians to live within the virtues and teachings of Jesus Christ, which hinge on compassion, patience, peace, humility, righteousness and love for one another, adding that doing so would guarantee an atmosphere of peace and security in the country. 
Aregbesola while announcing the public holiday called on Nigerians to imbibe the teachings of the prophet for peace and security in the country The minister also assured the citizens of peace and an end to all forms of insecurity.
