It's very obvious we're behind race in eradicating poverty - Osinbajo 


- Vice president Yemi Osinbajo has said that Nigeria is far behind in its plan to eradicate poverty among her citizens 
The vice president said Nigeria is yet to make any reasonable progress in stomping poverty out 
Osinbajo also blamed the previous administrations for failing to adopt a systematic or focused approach towards eradicating poverty in Nigeria
Nigeria's vice president, Yemi Osinbajo, on Monday, December 16, decried the level of poverty ravaging the country. 
Osinbajo warned that Nigeria despite being referred to as the giant of Africa is far behind other countries in the eradication of poverty. 
The vice president while speaking at an event to mark the 70th birthday of a former governor of Oyo state, Abiola Ajimobi, said Nigeria is yet to make any reasonable progress in stomping poverty out. 
The Cable reports that the vice president said Nigeria's major challenge in eradicating poverty remains the lack of a systematic or focused approach adopted by past administrations. 
Osinbajo said: “It’s very obvious that we are behind the race in eradicating poverty. The reason being that before now, there were no systematic and focused approach to eradicating poverty in our country."
“This is why from 2014-2015, the APC decided to write social investment into our manifestos. So, the social investment we are talking about is not by accident. It’s a comprehensive programme to tackle poverty," the vice president said. 
Stating that President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration in this detailed programme is collaborating with the World Bank to ensure sustainability.
